Jordan Bardella, chairman of the European Parliament's right-wing Patriots for Europe group, initiated a campaign to temporarily suspend the European Union's Green Deal, sending formal letters to conservative groups including the European People's Party (EPP) and European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR).
The European Conservative and Reformist group responded positively to Bardella's proposal, expressing willingness to cooperate on countering what they termed the "ideological excesses" of the Green Deal, as revealed in their response letter dated Jan. 29.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, affiliated with the EPP, called for a "full and very critical" review of all Green Deal laws, stating that economic stability must precede environmental concerns.
The Green Deal represents a crucial commitment to combat climate change that cannot be compromised. The climate targets are central to the EU's strategy, and any suspension would undermine years of progress and the bloc's global leadership in environmental protection.
The Green Deal's aggressive timeline threatens European economic competitiveness and prosperity. The current implementation risks bankrupting businesses and destroying jobs across the continent. A temporary suspension would allow for necessary adjustments without abandoning environmental goals entirely.
