Uncontrolled illegal immigration is a direct threat to European security, and Italy is right to suspend Schengen with Spain. Defending borders, stopping human traffickers and ensuring repatriations aren't extreme measures — they're basic governance. Spain's deliberate facilitation of mass illegal migration created this crisis, and other nations have every right to protect their citizens from the fallout.
Italy's suspension of Schengen punishes Spain for defending Europe's external border, which is exactly backwards. The vast majority of arrivals were already returned, proving the situation was manageable — so suspending Schengen was a political stunt, not a security measure. After receiving European solidarity during its own migration crisis, Italy choosing selfishness over partnership sets a dangerous precedent for the entire EU.
