Is this a stand for historical justice or a reckless political goal?

The Spin

Pro-government narrative

This is the right call — naming a Ukrainian special forces unit after the UPA, responsible for massacring tens of thousands of Polish civilians in Volhynia, demands accountability. Glorifying those killers is a direct insult to Polish victims and historical memory. Poland can back Ukraine against Russian aggression while still refusing to let war crimes get whitewashed.

Opposition narrative

Revoking Zelenskyy's honor is a reckless political stunt that hands Moscow a gift. Nicholas I and Mussolini never lost their Polish decorations, yet the leader of a nation bleeding to stop Russian imperialism does — that selective outrage exposes the move as domestic theater. Insulting Ukraine's president means insulting the people defending Europe's eastern flank at enormous cost.
