The Spin

Narrative A

The Iran connection in this case clearly appears as a setup to justify military action. A Pakistani man, with convenient Iranian ties, contacts someone who turns out to be an FBI informant, and gets arrested immediately before a major political event. This reeks of a manufactured narrative designed to blame Iran and create a pretext for war.

Narrative B

The FBI caught a genuine Iranian assassination plot red-handed and has brought prosecution with overwhelming evidence. Merchant traveled directly from Iran, recruited individuals he believed to be hitmen, handed over cash, drew out plans on napkins, and was then arrested while fleeing the U.S. It is clear that Iran plotted to murder American officials on U.S. soil.

Pro-establishment narrative

Any speculation about the information surrounding this trial, or its outcomes, should be avoided. Until both sides have put across all arguments in a court of law and a verdict is reached, commentary on an ongoing trial, especially with such sensitive geopolitical implications, would risk undermining the process of justice in the U.S.
