This reverses the usual logic of diplomacy. Iran is the one that wants a deal, quickly and badly, and that says everything about who is negotiating from weakness. The United States decides whether engagement happens at all, and on what terms. Openness to talks is a choice, not an obligation handed down by a list of demands.

Too much is breaking at once. Oil disruptions, soaring fuel prices, supply shortages, attacks on Saudi infrastructure and continuing losses from global energy markets are compounding the costs of the Iran war. The only way forward is to reach a deal with Iran and bring an end to what has become a disastrous failure for the Trump administration.
