The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Price transparency is the cheapest way to force gas stations to compete, and putting pump prices in front of millions of drivers does exactly that. Rampant price-matching thrives when nobody can see who is quietly overcharging, so sunlight on every forecourt is worth real money to households. Small savings add up when fuel is a necessity, not a luxury.

The Grocer GOV.UK

Government-critical narrative

Telling motorists to shop around while fuel duty climbs is nothing other than the government dodging accountability. Comparison data riddled with stale prices sends drivers miles out of the way to pay more, turning a promised saving into a real loss. Real relief at the pump comes from cutting the tax baked into every liter, not from a map app.
