Google DeepMind has cracked what others couldn't: robots that think and act simultaneously without the costly stop-and-think lag.

Gemini Robotics 2 still requires extensive task-specific training via teleoperation and simulation, meaning that true general-purpose robots remain a distant goal despite the hype. Frontier AI controlling physical machines has already produced dangerous, unpredictable behavior, and Google's own safety head admits uncertainty is a serious open problem. Calling this a milestone toward physical AGI sounds bold, but the gap between tidying shelves in a demo and doing anything a human can remains enormous.
