Right narrative
A French soldier died defending the fight against terrorism, and that sacrifice demands accountability. Chief Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion was killed in a drone strike in Iraq's Erbil region while training partners to combat IS — a mission that has nothing to do with the war in Iran. Attacking forces engaged in legitimate counter-terrorism work is flat-out unacceptable, and France is right to stand firm.
Left narrative
France's troops didn't die in a vacuum — Iraq has become a second battlefield in the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, and pro-Iranian groups are hitting back at every foreign military presence in the region. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed dozens of such attacks, and Ashab Ahl al-Kahf explicitly vowed to target French interests going forward. Calling this "unacceptable" ignores the broader war France chose to plant itself in the middle of.
