US Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks Resigns

Was Border Patrol's anti-trafficking chief a disgraced hypocrite or a border security hero whose record speaks for itself?

The Spin

Democratic narrative

The man tasked with combating human trafficking bragged to colleagues about paying for sex in Colombia and Thailand — and even recruited subordinates to join him. That's a direct contradiction of Border Patrol's core mission. Banks quietly resigned without addressing the allegations, and CBP brushed it off as old news, but agents who worked alongside him made clear his character was never fit for the job.

Republican narrative

After 37 years of service, Banks delivered the most secure southern border in modern American history, achieving record-low crossings that skeptics said couldn't be done. Strong enforcement and real leadership produced results, not talking points. The focus should be on maintaining those gains and finding a replacement who keeps that momentum going.
