Attal Calls for a 'United States of Europe'

Is this the only way to survive Russia, China and Washington or a federal fantasy dissolving French sovereignty?

The Spin

Left narrative

Europe is getting squeezed by Russia, China and Washington while a single veto-wielding government stalls everything, so pooling economies into a United States of Europe is the only serious answer. A core group can build European AI, chips, satellites, fusion power and a sovereign payment system instead of falling behind. The choice is becoming the 51st American state, the 24th Chinese province or a continental power.

Right narrative

Burying French sovereignty in a federal superstate is exactly the fantasy voters keep rejecting, and doubling down on it while the National Rally leads the polls shows how out of touch the centrist project has become. Europe must change how it functions, not hand Brussels the power to send French soldiers to die or set French energy prices. Cooperation between sovereign nations works, dissolving the nation does not.
