Amnesty International's eight-month investigation leaves little doubt: the RSF systematically massacred, raped and starved civilians in El Fasher, deliberately targeting non-Arab Zaghawa communities in what amounts to ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. RSF commanders filmed themselves executing civilians, while named officers directed torture at detention sites. The international community must deploy a protection force and cut off arms to the RSF's backers.
The RSF is being scapegoated while the Sudanese Armed Forces — backed by the Muslim Brotherhood — drone-bomb civilian bridges and dams with virtually no accountability. The SAF's indiscriminate airstrikes on populated areas, hospitals and humanitarian convoys are documented war crimes that the international community continues to ignore. Sanctioning both sides equally while letting the SAF evade genocide allegations is a profound moral failure.
