This rebuke was a much-needed check on Meta's recent actions. The company effectively dropped all of its safeguards against disinformation and hate speech, sending its multiple platforms down a dangerous path. Community notes don't work, as shown by X's failed experiment, but thankfully, the Oversight Board exists to catch Meta before it, too, loses control.
The Oversight Board, an Orwellian initiative from its inception, is now trying to curb Meta's recent pivot toward free speech. They only care about silencing speech they don't like — such as immigration and LGBTQ critics — and will impose their will on actual company leaders to get their way. This coincides with the nonstop complaints from former content censors who were fired because their jobs didn't align with Meta's new pro-free speech stance.
