Labeling Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco as “safe countries” is deeply irresponsible. These nations have extensive records of human rights abuses, repression, and hostility toward migrants. Fast-tracking deportations based on this false designation puts lives at risk and undermines the right to asylum. The EU must drop the “safe country” label and uphold its human rights obligations.
Quicker asylum processing is vital. Labeling some countries “safe” may ease pressure, but only fast, fair, and efficient decisions can restore trust in the system. Delays fuel smuggling, strain resources, and trap genuine refugees in limbo. A humane, streamlined approach ensures protection for the vulnerable while deterring abuse. Bureaucracy shouldn’t block European security.
