The European Union (EU) deployed its Election Observation Mission (EOM) on Sunday, with over 100 observers sent to monitor Kosovo's parliamentary elections scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025. The move comes following an invitation from the country's President.
The election observation team includes 18 long-term observers from EU member states, along with Norway and Switzerland, who will assess campaign activities and preparations across all municipalities.
NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeepers have also reinforced their presence in Kosovo, with 200 additional Italian troops supporting their existing 4.3K-strong force during the election period.
The EU’s role in Kosovo’s upcoming elections highlights its unwavering commitment to democracy and stability. By deploying its observation mission, the EU will ensure a transparent, inclusive, and credible electoral process. This effort supports Kosovo’s democratic development, empowering its citizens to make informed choices and reinforcing the EU’s vision for a peaceful, prosperous Balkans.
The West's handling of Kosovo undermines peace and stability in the country. Despite agreements meant to foster coexistence, the region continues to escalate tensions with Serbia, attacking Serbian institutions and undermining Serbs' rights in Kosovo. The international community's failure to condemn these provocations prioritizes political agendas over human rights, risking further division in the region.
