US intelligence agencies have reportedly warned that Americans, both in the Middle East and within the country, face rising risks of attacks by Lebanese Hezbollah militants.
Without elaborating on the nature of the attacks, four unidentified intelligence officials have told Politico that the Iran-backed militant group could mobilize its vast global network to execute an attack in the US.
The Hezbollah shadow is hovering over the latest Middle East crisis. It was evident that Iran could stir up trouble using any of its many tentacles in the region. Now that the threat is getting closer to the US, it's time for the Biden administration to double down on its diplomatic and material support to Tel Aviv and make it clear that it will not tolerate Hezbollah menacing Israel.
An escalation of the Israel-Hamas war into a wider Middle East conflict is neither viable for the Israel Defense Forces nor in the US' best interests. Israel must, therefore, pipe down rhetoric aimed at domestic voters. And the US must ensure that the debris from Israel's failures isn't allowed to wash up on American shores.
