UAE Opens Probe into FlyDubai Cockpit Attack

Was this a security failure born of rising antisemitism or is it too early to say whether this was terrorism?

The Spin

Narrative A

Post-9/11 security rules are clearly outdated when someone hired months earlier, who was flagged by colleagues for extremist behavior, gets cleared for an Israel-bound cockpit. Vetting has to account for ideology, and anyone openly hostile to Israel belongs under scrutiny. The broadening acceptability of antisemitism enabled this threat to become real.

Narrative B

It's far too early to say conclusively that this was a terror attack. Nationality alone is not evidence of terrorist motivation; an investigation must definitively find evidence of prior planning and radicalization in order to determine that this was an ideologically motivated incident. Israeli politicians must be hitching a ride on this incident for political gain.
