Companies that profit from AI have a duty to pick up the phone when credible threats of mass violence cross their servers. OpenAI's chief executive already issued a public apology to Tumbler Ridge, admitted the failure to alert law enforcement and committed to working with every level of government to prevent a repeat. He has also called for a federal safety framework and says the world is right to be afraid of AI. A lawsuit in California courts does less for Canadian safety than binding national rules.
