The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

Russia should be in no doubt about Britain's resolve in standing with Ukraine and helping it to defend itself against Russia's illegal invasion. The U.K. will continue to support Ukraine, as well as other allies, from Russian aggression.

Establishment-critical narrative

Under successive British leaders, the U.K. continues to escalate against Russia. But rather than make the country safer, it simply goads Russia into a response. How long can this strategy continue before it spectacularly backfires?

Pro-Russia narrative

The U.K. is deliberately opting for escalation while hypocritically professing a desire for peace. In doing so, it is becoming a co-conspirator in Kyiv's terrorist crimes and for this it will have to pay a price.

Metaculus Prediction

There's a 3% chance that there will be a direct conflict between Russia and any NATO member state before 2027, according to the Metaculus community prediction.
