Trump Threatens to Bomb Oman Over Hormuz StraitTensions

Is this self-sabotage or a calculated show of maximum pressure that's finally working?

The Spin

Threatening to bomb Oman — a key diplomatic ally actively facilitating nuclear talks with U.S. knowledge and approval — is reckless and self-defeating. Oman's role in deconflicting the Strait of Hormuz is irreplaceable, and alienating that partner destroys the best available off-ramp from escalation. Holding a grudge against an ally for doing diplomacy transparently is dangerous instability.

President Trump's blunt warning to Oman and Iran signals exactly the kind of unambiguous American resolve that decades of soft diplomacy failed to deliver. With a direct backchannel to IRGC officials and zero artificial deadlines, the pressure campaign is methodical and serious. Telling Iran to raise the white flag while making consequences crystal clear is maximum leverage — and it's working.
