While the rescue of 308 kidnapping victims is a welcome success, it also underscores the scale of Nigeria's security crisis. Kidnappings continue to spread into previously calmer regions, while bandits and jihadist groups exploit weak state control over vast rural areas. Without tackling governance failures — corruption, impunity and weak policing and justice institutions — such rescues will remain reactive rather than solving the crisis.
