Israel Vows to Stay in South Lebanon Despite US-Iran Deal

Israel Vows to Stay in South Lebanon Despite US-Iran Deal

Is the U.S.-Iran deal a landmark victory for Lebanon and the Axis of Resistance or a dangerous capitulation that repeats the mistakes of Oslo?

The Spin

The U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding is a landmark achievement that ends military confrontation across all fronts, including Lebanon. Iran stood firm and secured key provisions — the lifting of the naval blockade, respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and guarantees on the Strait of Hormuz. This deal maximizes the national interests of Iran and Lebanon while strengthening the Axis of Resistance.

No U.S.-brokered deal binds Israel — sovereignty isn't negotiable, and history proves that caving to international pressure always costs Israeli lives. Israel cannot withdraw from Lebanon until Hezbollah is fully dismantled, and any drone or missile fired from Lebanon must be met with an immediate strike on Beirut's southern suburbs. Anything less repeats the catastrophic mistakes of Oslo and 2006.

Israel's military achieved its objectives, but Netanyahu failed where leadership mattered most. He squandered diplomatic opportunities, damaged key alliances and prioritized personal political survival over national interests. The failures exposed on Oct. 7, 2023, raised doubts about his ability to protect Israelis, while the U.S.-Iran deal reinforced that he can no longer conduct a diplomatic campaign. The conclusion is clear: Netanyahu's era has come to an end.
