Was the Leipzig attack handled with due diligence or was the mental health framing a deliberate deflection?

The Spin

Pro-government narrative

The Leipzig attack is a tragedy that demands swift justice, and authorities are right to pursue every angle before drawing conclusions. Labeling it a rampage driven by mental instability is a responsible starting point — the rule of law must work thoroughly before rushing to judgment. Saxony's leaders are handling this the right way by letting investigators do their job.

Government-critical narrative

Framing the Leipzig attack as a mental health episode is a convenient dodge that lets authorities avoid harder questions. The attacker held German citizenship, and that fact alone is being used to shut down legitimate scrutiny about the nature of the attack. Pushing a psychological explanation before the investigation is even complete is exactly the kind of deflection that erodes public trust.
