The coordinated jihadist assault on Mali is yet further proof that the Sahel’'s rapidly deepening and increasingly volatile security crisis demands urgent international attention. Western powers and neighboring states allegedly harboring armed groups continue to fuel the very instability they claim to oppose. A credible, sustained multilateral response — not geopolitical maneuvering — remains the only viable path to protecting civilian populations from escalating terrorist violence.
