To Lam's rise to General Secretary and State President marks a defining moment for Vietnam's future. Placing the people at the center of all policy, the unified leadership structure enables faster, bolder decisions to hit 10% annual GDP growth and reach high-income status by 2045. This is exactly the strong, focused governance Vietnam needs to compete globally and lift millions out of poverty.
Concentrating party and state power in one man's hands is a dangerous regression, not a bold reform. To Lam is modeling himself after Xi Jinping, dismantling collective leadership while using surveillance and repression to silence dissent. Wildly ambitious GDP targets backed by megaproject spending and unaccountable national champions are a recipe for corruption and collapse, not a genuine path to prosperity.
