The Spin

Establishment-critical narrative

It is anything but far-fetched to conclude that foreign powers such as France are behind the terrorists' fuel blockade to strangle Mali and prevent it from achieving true independence and sovereignty. The people of Mali are fighting a heroic battle against foreign interference and repeated attempts to destabilize the country by exploiting jihadists to overthrow the transitional government. Recent developments highlight that Mali has not yet achieved its goal, but the Malian people will not cease fighting for their freedom.

Pro-establishment narrative

The jihadists' blockade proves yet again that Mali's military junta has catastrophically failed to protect civilians, allowing Islamist groups to blockade the capital and impose brutal Sharia law while massacring innocents with the help of Russian mercenaries. The regime's authoritarian drift, elimination of democracy and alliance with Moscow after throwing out France have transformed Mali into an African Afghanistan, proving that rejecting international partnerships leads to economic collapse and terrorist control.

Metaculus Prediction

There is a 62.5% chance that Mali will experience a successful coup d'etat before 2040, according to the Metaculus prediction community.
