The Spin

The injunction blocking the Chagos deal delays long-overdue justice for a displaced people. The U.K. should honour international law, not cling to colonialism. Britain stole the archipelago in 1814, and has been making excuses for its immoral retention ever since. Chagossians should not be used as puppets by right-wing actors to prohibit this long-overdue decision.

The injunction on the Chagos Islands deal is a vital pause in a disgraceful handover of British territory. As Pompe and Dugasse's brave stand proves, this smoke and mirrors deal ignores Chagossian voices and risks national security. The courts must uphold justice, not rubber-stamp diplomacy driven by reckless ideology.

Metaculus Prediction
