Sudan militia accused of mass killings and sexual violence as attacks escalate

On Monday, the British foreign ministry stated it would seek support from the UN Security Council on its call for a Sudan ceasefire and delivery of humanitarian aid. The UK and Sierra Leone are sponsoring a draft resolution to safeguard civilians in the conflict, and British foreign minister David Lammy will preside over the vote.
Conflict broke out in April 2023 after a power struggle between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces ahead of civilian transition. The civil war has killed tens of thousands, triggering the world's worst displacement crisis.
Lammy, in a foreign ministry statement, promised to double Britain's aid to £ £226M ($285 million), and vowed to “never let Sudan be forgotten.”
