Steve Bannon, the former White House chief strategist, was released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut, on Tuesday after serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress.
Bannon was convicted in 2022 for refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the US Capitol. He continues to appeal his conviction.
In an interview after his release, the 70-year-old Donald Trump ally said he was "empowered" and vowed to support the former US president in the final stretch of his campaign.

Bannon's release won't significantly impact the election outcome. His podcast has lost momentum during his absence, falling out of the top charts. With only a week left, there's not enough time to mobilize his audience and create the widely anticipated post-election chaos.
