The Facts

  • As his runningmate J.D. Vance was engaged in the vice presidential debate last night, Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump posted on social media that he would "VETO" a national abortion ban and leave it "UP TO THE STATES TO DECIDE BASED ON THE WILL OF THEIR VOTERS."As his running mate J.D. Vance was engaged in the vice presidential (VP) debate Tuesday night, Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump posted in all caps on social media that he would "veto" a national abortion ban.

  • He further asserted that he would leave the issue "up to the states to decide based on the will of their voters," adding that he "fully" supports exceptions for "rape, incest, and the life of the mother."

The Spin

Trump had to once again reiterate his position that abortion laws, as is now the law of the land, should be up to each state to vote on separately. It makes sense, however, that Democrats are continuing to lie about Trump given their candidates' voting records on the issue. As Minnesota governor, Walz signed a bill that stopped requiring doctors to save a baby who's been born alive during a botched abortion; and Harris voted for the same when she was a Senator.
