The Facts

  • US law enforcement agencies said on Wednesday that Iranian hackers stolen material from former President Donald Trump's campaign and send it via email to Democratic President Joe Biden's re-election campaign, before it was suspended.

  • In a joint statement, the FBI, Cybersecurity, and Infrastructure Security Agency, and Office of the Director of National Intelligence said that Iranian cyber attackers had sent unsolicited emails to people associated with President Biden’s campaign, with stolen, non-public material from the Trump campaign.

The Spin

US adversaries, such as Iran, Russia, and China, try to turn our free and open society against us. They see election interference as a low-cost, potentially high-reward method to launch cyber attacks to harm undesired candidates or create division and distrust. We must do more to protect our core institutions against these malicious attacks. Western democracies must band together to defend our way of life against all enemies that want to harm us.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has no interest or goal to try to influence the 2024 US presidential election. The accusations are biased and have absolutely no foundation. In the eyes of the Iranian government, Donald Trump is a criminal. However, Iran does not want to interfere in US internal affairs. Instead, the Iranian government is working to bring Trump to justice through legal means for his involvement in the assassination of General Suleimani.
