FBI Looks Into Alleged Iran Hacking of Trump Campaign Documents

On Tuesday, the campaign for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris says that it was informed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that it was the target of a "foreign actor influence operation," adding that they did not believe they suffered any "security breaches."

The FBI says the efforts date back to the period before Pres. Joe Biden withdrew from the race and come on the heels of the campaign of former president Donald Trump saying that they were the victims of a hack they suspect Iran to be behind.

Reportedly, three Biden-Harris campaign staffers received spear-phishing emails, fraudulent emails made to look legitimate to steal sensitive information. The FBI began investigation into cybersecurity incidents with the Trump and Biden campaigns began in June.

Several media outlets received internal Trump campaign files over the week, which they say were hacked. A Microsoft report last week claimed that an Iran-backed group they've named "Mint Sandstorm" has been behind efforts to access email accounts belonging to presidential campaign officials.
