At least five US servicemen and two contractors were wounded in a rocket attack at al-Asad airbase in western Iraq on Monday, according to US officials, who attributed the strike to Iran-aligned militia groups.

The strike took place as the Middle East prepares for potential new attacks by Iran and its allies following the killing of Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr in an Israeli strike and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh last week.
