The Facts

  • According to CBS News, data from the government reveals that illegal border crossings by migrants in the US have declined for the fifth straight month. The US Border Patrol recorded a significant decrease in apprehensions, falling from 250K in December to just 56K in July, the lowest level since September 2020.

  • The Biden adminstration issued an executive order that went into effect on June 5, which halted the granting of asylum to migrants. US authorities continues to work with international partners to combat transnational criminal organizations that traffick people to the US border.

The Spin

According to the most recent immigration data, the Biden administration has taken critical steps to address the challenges at the southern border and reduce the high level of illegal immigration. There was already a significant decrease in the numbers before President Biden issued an executive order to limit asylum on June 5. If the effective measures at the border are sustained, the temporary asylum restriction might be lifted in the near future.

America is currently experiencing the most severe border crisis in our history. President Joe Biden caused this crisis when he reversed almost every immigration program of the previous government without establishing viable alternatives. He did this despite knowing what the repercussions would be. Biden has undermined America's border security and immigration system's integrity. The best way to address the border crisis would be to restore the Trump administration's border measures and terminating his own policies that only encourage illegal immigration.
