According to CBS News, data from the government reveals that illegal border crossings by migrants in the US have declined for the fifth straight month. The US Border Patrol recorded a significant decrease in apprehensions, falling from 250K in December to just 56K in July, the lowest level since September 2020.
The Biden adminstration issued an executive order that went into effect on June 5, which halted the granting of asylum to migrants. US authorities continues to work with international partners to combat transnational criminal organizations that traffick people to the US border.
Estimates indicate that July's numbers are 30% lower than those from the previous month and below the average monthly border crossings during Donald Trump's presidency in 2019.
