Unnamed officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and other intelligence bodies have warned that multiple foreign actors were taking advantage of recent events in the presidential race, such as the withdrawal of Pres. Biden and the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

The officials asked Americans to remain vigilant with information they read online, claiming that actors such as Russia, Iran, and China were tailoring misinformation to appear as if it being produced by Americans with the hopes of being shared online.

In their briefing to the media, the officials said that Russia was likely to spread content in support of former Pres. Donald Trump, while Iran would seek to undermine his campaign. China lacks a clear preference for president, but may interfere in Congressional races.

Foreign actors were particularly concerned with retooling their influence efforts to target likely Democratic nominee Kamala Harris after the suspension of Biden's campaign, and that the attempt on Trump's life has already factored into their "narratives."

Russia is expected to be the largest threat in the foreign interference front. Officials told reporters that Russia was hiring marketing firms to produce propaganda as means of obscuring their origins, with two of these being sanctioned by the US in March.

The briefing was organized by the ODNI, FBI, and Dept. of Homeland Security, where officials spoke to the media on the condition of anonymity. Iran and China issued denials regarding US election interference, while the Russian embassy had not comment.
