Ilya Sutskever, OpenAI Co-Founder, Launches Rival AI Startup

Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder and former chief scientist at ChatGPT maker OpenAI, has announced that he is founding a new artificial intelligence (AI) startup, dubbed Safe Superintelligence.
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the company said their "sole focus" is on creating AI that has greater intellectual capacities than human beings, known as superintelligence, focusing on "safety, security, and progress."

Given that OpenAI possesses some of the most powerful AI tools available, the fact that so many insiders have jumped ship over safety concerns should give every one of us pause. OpenAI has also dismantled many safety teams and replaced them with ineffective, rubber-stamp committees. It is apparent that AI is developing at breakneck speed and that we need to think long and hard about keeping us safe from it.
