The Facts

  • According to Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), US Pres. Joe Biden's administration has closed over 350K asylum applications since 2022. Once closed, the migrants were no longer required to check in with authorities.

  • According to the report, the administration took these asylum applications out of the legal system because the migrants had no criminal record and were deemed not a threat to the country.

The Spin

Biden is trying to implement multiple polices aimed at combatting the near-impossible-to-solve problems at the southern border. Besides this executive border, which will block all migration after a few thousand per week, the president is also working with Democratic lawmakers to pass a border bill to codify such rules into national law. However, Republicans — for no other reason than to make Biden look bad — are blocking these comprehensive policies.

By playing politics, Biden is returning the country to its old days of ineffective and outright racist border policies. Instead of pouring all this federal money into streamlining the application process, he's decided to separate more asylum-seeking families and prosecute vulnerable immigrants. The Democratic president should be helping, not hurting, those who seek a better life in America.

As the election looms, Biden is frantically attempting to trick the country into thinking he's tough on illegal immigration — the problem is that throughout his entire term in office, he's shown the opposite desire. From rolling back border wall construction to gutting immigration enforcement inside the country, the president has lost any chance at passing concrete legislation ahead of November.

While Biden is the worst of them all, he and his party aren't the only ones trying to pass hollow immigration laws to gain political brownie points. Republican congressmen have co-signed bills that include the same weak border enforcement included in Biden's expected executive order. US politicians on both sides are gaslighting the country when they say 5K illegals per day is not a big deal.
