US Pres. Joe Biden said on Wednesday that, if Israel goes into Rafah, the US will not "supply the weapons and artillery shells used.” Biden said that the US was committed to Israel's security, but he acknowledged for the first time that US weapons have killed civilians in Gaza.
Biden's comments come after it was reported earlier that the US would not supply Israel with a shipment of 500 lb and 2,000 lb bombs, with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirming the weapons delay, telling a Senate Subcommittee that the US paused “one shipment of high payload munitions.”
Israel must be able to defend itself from terrorist attacks from Gaza or elsewhere, and the US is committed to preventing malicious actors from threatening Israel's legitimate concerns. However, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has gotten out of hand, and the Biden admin. will not support any further offensive action in Rafah. Netanyahu must keep his promises and work with US allies to find a resolution to this conflict.
There is only one word to describe the Biden admin.'s current policy toward Israel: betrayal. At the climax of this war, Biden has unilaterally decided that the opinions of pro-Hamas fanatics are more important than Israel's legitimate security concerns. Hamas terrorists butchered over 1K Israelis in one day, and the US wants Israel to sit on its hands. Other US allies should take heed.
After over half a year of grinding brutality, the Biden admin. is now running damage control for its grotesque policies. The US has helped Israel destroy Gaza at every step of the way, and now that the deed is done, the US wants to end offensive arms shipments. It is simply too little too late. Both Biden and Netanyahu are responsible for this man-made disaster.
