Explosions were heard early Friday morning in Isfahan, Iran. According to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, its air defense batteries repelled a limited Israeli drone strike.

Iran attempted to minimize the incident, asserting the security of Isfahan's nuclear facilities and returning the early-morning suspended air traffic back to normal.

Israel's strikes are currently unknown in terms of extent and weapons used. Israel's military or the prime minister's office have not made any announcements about the strike. However, the IAEA has determined that Iran's nuclear facilities are unharmed.

After Iran's massive retaliation to Israel's April 1 airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, tensions have heightened. The international community was worried Israel would launch an attack on Iran that would set the region on fire. But experts now believe the response "was far more limited than many expected."

De-escalation was immediately demanded by France, Italy, and Oman. Antonio Tajani, Italy's foreign minister, has announced that the G7 foreign ministers will discuss the Middle East crisis on Thursday in Capri.

Israel alerted the Biden administration ahead of the attack and assured that it would not target Iran's nuclear facilities. On Friday, a top Iranian official said Iran has no immediate plans to retaliate, as Jerusalem officials had said the drone attack aimed to send a warning rather than inflict damage.
