Zelenskyy Names Special Forces Unit After Nazi Collaborators

Was the UPA a nationalist independence movement fighting all occupiers or a Nazi collaborator force guilty of mass murder?

The Spin

Pro-Ukraine narrative

The notion that the UPA collaborated with the Nazis is a myth largely spread by Soviet and Russian propaganda. The reality is that the UPA fought against both the Soviets and the Nazis as part of a nationalist independence movement that sought to create a Ukrainian state. That's why their history is commemorated in Ukraine.

Establishment-critical narrative

Zelenskyy continues to glorify Nazi collaborators and mass murderers of Jews, Poles and fellow Ukrainians. Meanwhile, Western politicians and mainstream media continue to whitewash these events or pretend not to see them.
