Foreign drones are a genuine national security threat; their software can beam sensitive data back to manufacturers abroad, and the U.S. is left dangerously dependent on overseas suppliers for critical components. Tariffs, therefore, are an appropriate response to reshore these vital capabilities and purge structural weaknesses, helping rebuild American dominance in the process.

The national security justification behind these tariffs is tenuous at best. After all, making imported drones more expensive will not stop them from transmitting data overseas. Nor will it make America's supply chain more secure, which can only occur through diversification, not an idealised reshoring. In truth, these measures are solely designed to punish foreign firms for their competitiveness and success.
