Are police simply enforcing the law or are they seeking to crush dissent by legal loopholes?

The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

In light of the February court ruling, the Metropolitan Police took a decision not to make arrests of Palestine Action supporters as it was unclear whether the government would be given a chance to appeal and because officers had to be given clear guidance on how to respond, especially as there were protestors outside the court. However, as it is now clear that the appeal will take many months, the police must enforce the law as it stands — not how it could be at a future point.

Establishment-critical narrative

Though the court has already ruled that proscription of Palestine Action as a terror group is unlawful, the state is using legal loopholes to continue its authoritarian crackdown on dissent and peaceful protestors. Meanwhile those who are engaged in the genocide of innocent civilians and export weapons to those undertaking these actions face absolutely no repercussions.
