The Spin

Pro-government narrative

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill is the biggest public health win in a generation, and will save countless lives. Smoking has devastated British families for decades, and this law finally puts an end to that cycle of preventable harm. Future generations deserve to grow up free from tobacco's grip, and this legislation makes that a reality.

Government-critical narrative

This generational smoking ban is unworkable and an overreach of government power. Burdening shopkeepers with age-policing duties while fueling black markets is bad policy dressed up as public health virtue. Adults have the right to make their own decisions, and no government should be in the business of deciding what legal products grown adults can purchase.
