Was Khan right to veto the Met's Palantir contract or did he put ideology before public safety?

The Spin

Left narrative

Khan is sticking up for London's moral compass. The Met bypassed required procurement steps, skipped deputy mayor approval and failed to demonstrate value for money, making the mayor's intervention a necessity. Handing a sole-source, £50M contract to a company with deep ties to Trump's border regime and Israel's military is exactly the kind of deal that demands fair scrutiny.

Right narrative

Blocking a contract already supporting the Met is a transparently political move with real public safety costs. The Met warned the veto means fewer officers on London streets, yet the same mayor accepts Palantir powering an NHS contract and a Ministry of Defence deal. London deserves an honest explanation as to why it is being put in danger for the sake of performative ideology.
