Tech companies are failing kids, plain and simple — 36,829 recorded offenses of child sexual abuse images in a single year prove it. Snapchat alone accounted for 43% of platform-linked crimes, yet these companies keep dragging their feet instead of deploying the technology that already exists to block nude images in real time. The U.K. government must stop letting them off the hook and make safeguards mandatory once and for all.

Snapchat has built one of the most aggressive child safety infrastructures in tech — deploying PhotoDNA, CSAI Match, signal-based sextortion detection and a Trust and Safety team that more than doubled since 2020. Partnerships with NCMEC, the IWF, law enforcement in Nigeria and the Tech Coalition show a platform actively dismantling abuse networks globally. Blaming Snapchat ignores the enormous, sustained investment already protecting kids every single day.

This includes supervising social media use, enabling privacy settings and educating children about risks like grooming and exploitation. Open communication helps children report suspicious behavior early.
