The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

TSMC's $265 billion commitment to U.S. manufacturing is the largest foreign investment in American history, delivering 12 chip plants in Arizona and tens of thousands of jobs. The most advanced semiconductors on earth will now be built on U.S. soil, securing the supply chain for critical technology. This is exactly what bringing manufacturing back to America looks like.

Pro-China narrative

The U.S. is exploiting TSMC through political pressure, while tying it to American interests. Mainland China remains TSMC's largest and most stable market, and hollowing out Taiwan's semiconductor edge to benefit U.S. supply chains risks catastrophic consequences for Taiwan's economy. This arrangement benefits Washington far more than it benefits TSMC.
