The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

Trump called mail-in voting "cheating" and is pushing the Save America Act to restrict it nationwide — then turned around and voted by mail in a Florida special election when in-person early voting was available. That's not a technicality, that's a glaring double standard. Mail-in ballots are essential to defending U.S. democracy, as they are so relied upon by voters from marginalized groups.

Pro-Trump narrative

Requesting an absentee ballot with verification, a signature and tracking is nothing like the mass unsolicited mail-in chaos pushed during 2020 — those are two completely different systems. Trump is based in D.C. on presidential duty and used Florida's secure, excuse-based process, which is exactly the kind of safeguarded exception the Save America Act preserves. Calling that hypocrisy ignores the actual policy distinction being made.
