Trump Signs New Orders Targeting Birthright Citizenship

Is Trump's birthright citizenship order an unconstitutional attack on the 14th Amendment or a long-overdue crackdown on birth tourism?

The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

Trump's new executive orders are flatly unconstitutional and no executive order can override the 14th Amendment. The Supreme Court already made clear that children born on U.S. soil are citizens — and these orders don't change that. Expect courts to strike them down fast.

Pro-Trump narrative

Birth tourism is a racket where wealthy foreign nationals game the system just to score an American passport for their child. The 14th Amendment was never meant to reward that kind of calculated fraud on American taxpayers. Cracking down on it is not a constitutional crisis.
