The Sweden Democrats lost ground for the first time since 1988, slipping to third place, while the Left and Greens surged and handed the left bloc the lead. Anti-immigrant nationalism has hit its ceiling in Sweden, and voters chose cooperation over scapegoating.

Open borders have become an electoral strategy, importing the margin needed to win rather than persuading the country.
