Trump's Pentagon takeover of Stars and Stripes is a direct assault on press freedom for servicemembers. Firing the ombudsman, sidelining the publisher without even consulting him, and planting an active-duty public affairs officer in leadership strips away the editorial independence troops have depended on for generations. A military news outlet that must answer to the chain of command isn't journalism, it's Kremlin-style propaganda.

Pro-Trump narrative

Stars and Stripes lost its way chasing D.C. gossip and reprinting wire copy instead of serving warfighters. The Pentagon's modernization effort under President Trump rightfully refocuses the publication on warfighting, weapons systems, fitness and lethality — content that actually matters to service members. Bringing a storied military outlet back to its core mission isn't censorship, it's accountability to the troops it exists to serve.
